Obamacare is a train wreck and must be repealed immediately. Chris was a leading opponent of Obamcare in Mississippi, volunteering his free time as lead counsel in a suit against Obamacare. As a state senator, Chris also opposed Obamacare’s massive expansion of Medicaid that would have bankrupted Mississippi and subjected the state to increased government mandates.
Chris supported conservative senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee in their effort to defund Obamacare and believes we must do whatever it takes to repeal Obamacare and save the American people from the increased costs, lost jobs and loss of privacy that Obamacare will bring.
He supports efforts to replace Obamacare with commonsense health care reforms that lower health care costs, increase choice for consumers, and protect our individual liberties. These reforms include enacting tort reform to limit the skyrocketing cost of defensive medicine, allowing individuals to receive the same tax benefits for their health insurance as employee-provided insurance, encouraging health savings accounts, and allowing people to buy health insurance across state lines.

At over 60,000 pages, Chris believes the U.S. tax code is a mess and must be reformed. The current tax code is so complex and difficult to understand, it costs the American people millions of hours every year just to comply with the maze of rules. The tax code is also filled with unfair handouts for politically favored industries at the expense of hardworking Americans.
Chris supports scrapping the current tax code and moving to a lower, simpler and flatter tax system that rewards hard work and encourages economic prosperity for all Americans. Instead of penalizing hard work with high taxes, we should cut tax rates to increase job creation, allow Americans to keep more of their hard-earned money, and reduce the size of government. As a U.S. senator, Chris will never vote for a tax increase.
For many decades, the federal government has increased federal education spending along with federal mandates with little to no improvement in our education system. Chris believes we should repeal No Child Left Behind, eliminate the federal government’s control over our education system, and restore that power to states, local communities, and parents.
Chris is an avid supporter of school choice programs that will give parents the ability to send their children to the school that best suits their unique needs regardless of income. As a state senator, Chris authored the “Mississippi Opportunity Scholarship and Educational Improvement Tax Credit Act” to provide scholarships to low- and middle-income students to pay tuition at the school of their parents’ choosing.
Chris is also a strong opponent of Common Core. Federal bureaucrats in Washington should not be dictating how to teach our children in Mississippi. These decisions should be made by educators and parents who understand the needs of our children best.

Government has grown too big, meddling in almost every aspect of our daily lives. Whether it is the EPA telling our farmers how to run their farms or new rules dictating what kind of light bulbs we can use, government regulation is destroying jobs and impinging on our most basic liberties.
It is time to reduce the size of government and the power granted to massive government agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency. As a state senator, Chris sponsored legislation designed to give owners of small businesses more say about state regulations that could affect their livelihoods. As a U.S. senator, Chris will oppose increased government regulation and will seek to repeal the most egregious regulations currently on the books.
As a constitutional conservative, Chris has fought to protect our individual liberties in the Mississippi state Senate, and he will continue to do the same in the U.S. Senate. One of Chris’s signature pieces of legislation as a state senator was the “Mississippi Student Religious Liberties Act of 2013” that protects students’ right to express their individual religious beliefs.
While Chris is committed to protecting our national security, he is concerned about Washington’s growing disrespect for our fundamental civil liberties. He strongly opposes the NSA’s surveillance program of U.S. citizens and supports making fundamental changes to the PATRIOT Act.
Chris believes America is the greatest country on earth and we should welcome those who want to partake in the American Dream. But this dream is made possible by our country’s long-standing respect for the rule of law and basic fairness. Amnesty rewards those who willfully break American laws and unfairly penalizes those who follow the rules and wait their turn to enter this great country.
Chris opposes amnesty and believes we most enforce the laws on the books and secure our border first and foremost. As a state senator, Chris introduced the Employment Protection Act to require all companies to use the Internet-based system to check the legal status of potential employees. This legislation was passed and signed into law.
Implementing a domestic energy policy that uses our natural resources in a responsible way will reduce our dependence on foreign oil, reduce the cost of energy, and increase jobs here at home.
Chris supports increasing offshore drilling and opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to exploration and drilling. He is a strong proponent of building the keystone pipeline and will oppose government funding for inefficient sources of energy like ethanol and solar energy. Government should not pick winners and losers and force American taxpayers to subsidize more expensive forms of energy. Instead, government should get out of the way and allow consumers to choose the fuel sources that best meet their needs.
While Mississippi farmers work hard to keep their farms running, the federal government continues to impose job-killing regulations on our family farms. Under President Obama’s tenure, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has unleashed a deluge of new mandates and regulations that are costing our farmers their livelihoods. Chris is committed to protecting Mississippi farms from an overzealous, heavy-handed regulatory regime.
Chris also supports repealing the Death Tax in its entirety to make sure hard-working farmers can pass on their the farms to their children and grandchildren without penalty.
Washington is suffering from a spending addiction. For years, both Democrats and Republicans have increased federal spending and approved debt limit increases without regard for the consequences. At a $17 trillion national debt, our country is on the verge of a fiscal crisis, and unless we get our deficit under control, the American people will pay the price for Washington’s reckless spending spree.
Washington is incapable of keeping its promises to cut spending. Chris will oppose increasing the debt limit unless significant spending cuts and reforms are made and will fight for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution that will force Congress to live within its means.
Chris also opposes the earmarking system that forces taxpayers to foot the bill for such outrageous projects as the Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska and the Lobster Institute in Maine. Earmarking has contributed to Washington’s debt crisis by allowing members to buy each other’s votes for massive spending bills in exchange for favored projects. While earmarks have been temporarily banned, Chris supports a permanent ban to this unfair and costly practice.
Chris is a proud supporter of our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and will oppose all efforts to undermine this crucial right. As a state senator, he sponsored legislation that was signed into law requiring Mississippi to honor any valid concealed carry permit issued by another state.

Chris is unabashedly pro-life and believes we have a responsibility to protect innocent unborn life. As a state senator, Chris introduced the Human Embryo Adoption Act to qualify human embryos as life, authored the Abortion of a Fetus Act in 2012, and introduced legislation that would’ve banned race and gender-based abortion.
Chris believes marriage is between a man and a woman and will vote to protect traditional marriage.

Our servicemen and women have put their lives on the line so that we can live in peace and security, and we have a duty to provide for them and their families. Chris will work hard to make sure our servicemen and women have the equipment and training they need to do their job and ensure they have access to the services they need when they come home.
As a state senator, Chris authored legislation to make it easier for our military servicemen and women to vote while serving overseas. He also introduced a bill to extend the Mississippi Homestead Exemption from disabled vets to their spouses following their deaths. He will never stop fighting for the men and women who make American great.
As a constitutional conservative, Chris will only support judicial nominees who are committed to interpreting the Constitution as it was originally intended by our founding fathers.
America faces many threats to its national security and must remain vigilant in defending our country and our citizens. But we must also be wary of engaging in foreign entanglements that our not in our national interest or violate our constitutional principles.
Chris also believes we need to reevaluate our foreign aid process both from a national security and fiscal responsibility perspective. American taxpayers should not be subsidizing countries that are hostile to American security and values. Finally, Chris will oppose all international treaties that sacrifice American sovereignty, such as the LOST and the U.N. Arms treaties. Chris is committed to making sure the American military continues to be the strongest in the world, and will not sacrifice this strength in an effort to appease our enemies.
